01.11.08 :: CCS Rule Change
The motorcycle eligibility rules for Middleweight Classes has been amended by CSS, to allow Twin Cylinder 4 valve per cylinder motorcycles up to a maximum of 850cc. This will allow the new Ducati 848 to compete in the Middleweight Class. This rule was implemented by CCS nationally, and will be in effect in all CCS regions.
01.03.08 :: Trophy Class Rules Amended
Trophy Class - After input from several riders, and in an effort to attract more entries to this race, we've decided to open it up to any racer who has never won a first place trophy with any race organization, as opposed to the original rule of any trophy whatsoever. The entry fee will still be in line with the other classes, and we will only award a Trophy for first place. Riders may continue to enter the race as long as they remain eligible. The winner will receive $20 per rider entered into the race. i.e. if 10 riders enter the race, the winner gets $200. Any class of motorcycle is eligible for this race. This race will only be run on race weekends without additional visiting classes such as Vintage or USGPRU.

12.29.07 :: 2008 Forms Posted
The majority of the new 2008 forms are now on-line. I'm just waiting on the 2008 New Racers pack, if you are a new racer and need one for the January round please just use the 2007 pack for now, it will work just the same.
Thanks,
Jack.
12.26.07 :: Changes for 2008 Season
Expert Middleweight GP will be gridded by timed qualifying for 2008. Amateur Middleweight GP will now be run as a separate race, and will be gridded the same way as in 2007.
Unlimited GP will now be a combined class, and will be gridded the same way as the other classes were in 2007. Payout will be the same as any other class. Unlimited GP does not have the entries or support to justify making it our premier class for the 2008 season. Expert Middleweight GP will be our premier class for the 2008 season.
The overall number one plate will be calculated exactly the same as in 2007, except that the top 3 class scores will count, instead of only 2 classes as in 2007. The reason this was changed was to make it harder for people to run in other classes with the sole intention of taking points away from overall points contenders. This is still possible to do, but it will have less effect if the top 3 class scores count. All of the top points scorers this year entered three or more classes anyway, so it won't affect the number of entries for most people, it just make it harder for people to take points away from other riders. We're hoping this will keep the points battle even closer for the 2008 season, and will see many more riders battling for the top spot. The same classes will count for overall points as they did in 2007.
R6 Tank Protectors - Yamaha R-6 2006 and later models. These guards may be home made or purchased after market items and must be made of a suitable material such as Delrin, plastic, carbon fiber, aluminum, steel, etc. These guards are to be fashioned to protect the exposed corners of the R-6 fuel tank in case of a crash. This rule was implemented after several reports of these bikes catching fire from fuel tank ruptures during crashes.
The National CCS ruling allowing SV650's into the Ultra Lightweight Superbike class for the 2008 season will not be adopted by the Southwest Region. The reasons put forth for this change by the National Committee do not affect our region, and therefore the change will not be implemented at this time.
Trophy Class - We'll be adding a new race to the 2008 season called the Trophy Class. This race will be open to anyone who has never won a Trophy with any racing organization. The entry fee will be in line with the other classes, and we will only award a Trophy for first place. Riders may continue to enter the race as long as they remain eligible. The winner will receive $20 per rider entered into the race. i.e. if 10 riders enter the race, the winner gets $200. Any class of motorcycle is eligible for this race.
I'll post the full 2008 addendums as soon as they're finalized.
Let's make 2008 an even better season than 2007 was.
Thanks,
Jack.

11.18.07 :: Zuma GP Update
We've decided not to do pre-entries for the Zuma GP. It will only cause the registration girls way more work in the morning, and it will also prevent any refund / credit issues for the $10 if anyone is unable to race after they have already pre-entered. It will also eliminate any potential gridding issues. So here's how it will work, all riders will simply ride up to the pit exit on their Zuma's with their $10 in hand. Tech will give the bike and you a quick once over, you put your $10 in the bucket, and choose where to put your Zuma on the Le Mans style start line. All riders will then line up at the pit exit, and when the signal is given, run to your Zuma's and start the race.
When the winner comes into the pits after the race, they'll collect all the money in the bucket for their reward, for what will undoubtedly be a well earned victory.
I'm really looking forward to this... See you on the grid,
Jack.
11.18.07 :: December Schedule Posted
To view the schedule for the December Races CLICK HERE. The parking plan for the December round will be available after the November 24th Trackday, when we've had a chance to look at the paddock more closely, and decide where to put everyone. Thanks for your patience.
11.08.07 :: Zuma GP at the December 9th Races
Road Race Southwest will be holding a Zuma GP at the final round of the 2007 season. Any Zuma type scooter of no more than 50cc displacement will be allowed to enter. No Pocketbike, Mini Motard, Dirt Bike or non scooter style machines will be allowed to enter. Also, no machine equipped with gears, only single gear automatic transmissions will be allowed. Basically any Zuma style machine from any manufacturer qualifies for the race. The final decision on which machines are allowed to enter the race will be made by the RRSW Tech Staff. Entry fee for the race will be $10 per rider, the winner takes all the entry fees as his payout. No portion of the entry fees will be retained by RRSW. The race will be a 10 lap Le Mans style start, on a modified shortened course. All Zuma GP racers must hold a current CCS or affiliate license, wear all safety equipment as required by the rule book, and must have entered at least one other race for the December 9th event.
A lot of people asked me to put this race on for the last event. I'm hoping quite a few of you enter, I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun...
Gentleman, start your engines!
10.31.07 :: Trailer Drop Off on Friday Night
Firebird Main will be open from 6pm until 8pm on Friday night for anyone wishing to drop off their trailers. There will be no set-up allowed on Friday night, and no one will be allowed to stay in the paddock. There will be no security on Friday evening, so any thing left at the track is done so at your own risk. Please take a moment to review the parking plan if you have not already done so before you drop off your trailer. The gate will be locked at 8pm sharp.

10.28.07 :: Parking Plan for the November 4th Race Weekend
Here's the parking plan for the next race weekend. I've also included a picture of a previous race weekend at Main. As you can see from the picture, the parking was not very well structured, and that may make it difficult to maintain track or emergency access. Please try to keep the parking in rows, this will make access much easier, and it will also look far more professional for spectators, as well as increasing safety for everyone.

10.07.07 :: Mark your Calendars
I know that all you racers have very hectic social lives, so I wanted to give you as much notice as possible for the date of the Road Race Southwest 2007 Awards Ceremony. The end of year get together will be held on January 5th 2008. It will be free of charge to any racer that has entered at least one race with Road Race Southwest during the 2007 season, and they will also be allowed to bring one guest free of charge to accompany them. I'll post more information as we confirm all the specific details of the event. The 5th of January will not be a race weekend, so you can all get your groove on without having to worry about racing the next day. I want everyone to be able to have fun and enjoy themselves, which was very difficult last year as most of the people attending were racing the following day.
I know this will be a great event and I hope to see all of you there,
Jack.
09.28.07 :: Parking on Friday Night
If you're camping outside the gate on Friday night, please park as follows. All racers should form one line to the right hand side of the gate, and vendors should form one line to the left hand side of the gate, please leave the center lane clear so that RRSW Staff and Firebird track crew can get in early to prepare the track. Vendors will be allowed into the track first, this is because generally they have the most set-up, and also so that when they're all parked we can use all of the remaining available space. I have asked Firebird this weekend to tow anyone who they feel is blocking the gate, or who is not following the above system.
If we follow the above, people will get access to the track in the order they arrived at the track which is only fair. On this occasion, no one will be given a wristband unless their actual vehicle is the one currently at the gate. This will stop people waiting at the gate when they're 10th in line, getting their wristband and then pulling out of line to drive through the gate. Hopefully this will ease some of your concerns about the 'I was here first drama' that can sometimes occur.
There should be plenty of room this weekend, so there's no need to panic about getting your spot. Please act considerately to each other at the gate.
Thanks a lot,
Jack.
09.27.07 :: Trailer Drop Off at Firebird
If you would like to drop off your trailer on Friday evening, you may do so between 6:00pm and 8:00 pm. You may only drop the trailer off, no unloading or setting up of any kind is allowed. We DO NOT have security on site for Friday night, so it is entirely at your own risk if you leave your trailers there or not. There is NO CAMPING in the paddock for racers on Friday evening. The gates will be locked at 8:00pm sharp. You are allowed to camp outside the gate on Friday evening, but please park considerately and do not block the gate.
Thanks a lot, I'll see you there,
Jack.
09.24.07 :: Firebird Info
Okay it's been a while since we did the whole Race Day thing so here's a friendly reminder of some info.
There will be no entry to the track on Friday evening except for people who are setting up the track to get ready for Saturday morning, those people already know who they are, so if you don't know about it, it's not you. You may be able to drop trailers off on Friday at some point, but I won't know that until Firebird get back to me, as soon as I know for sure I'll post that info.
Remember the parking plan we have of Firebird, well it's still in effect, please take a look at it to remind yourselves of the layout so that we have a smooth morning and we can get practice running ASAP. Asking you to move if you're in the wrong place just upsets everyone and wastes a lot of time, we should be okay on room but please park according to the plan. To view the East Track parking plan CLICK HERE
If you are camping outside the gate on Friday evening, or arrive early at the track, PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE, Firebird get really bent out of shape if there staff can't get into the track to get it ready for us. Blocking the gate will just delay the whole day so please park considerately.
I'm really looking forward to seeing all you guys turn and burn again, it's
been way too long.
I'll see you on the grid,
Jack.

09.17.07 :: New Sponsor for Unlimited GP
I'm very pleased to announce that Cycle Trader will be sponsoring our Unlimited GP class for the rest of the season. Payout for less than 10 riders will remain the same, but payout for more than 10 riders has been increased. Cycle Trader's increase in purse money, along with the Engine Ice sponsorship will make for some good payout's in Unlimited GP for the remainder of the season. Thanks to Cycle Trader for their support of our series.

08.29.07 :: Amendments to Engine Ice Sponsorship
Engine Ice very kindly gave us $1000 in sponsorship for our last four races of the season. That works out to $250 per race, so we'll be awarding $100 for the holeshot, which will work exactly the same as it's been working in the other classed this season. The remaining $150 will be awarded to the first rider who is legally in the lead at the end of the first lap, so no cutting across the infield to make it to the stripe first.
Thanks to the guys at http://www.swroadracing.com for all the input and suggestions, speak and you shall be heard!
I hope to see some of you at the September 23rd Trackday. Laters, Jack.

08.21.07 :: New Sponsor for Unlimited GP
I'm very pleased to announce that Engine Ice has joined Road Race Southwest as an additional sponsor for the remainder of the 2007 series. Engine Ice will be paying a $200 per race holeshot award in the Unlimited GP Class. I would very much like to thank Engine Ice for their support of our series, and I know they'll be a very welcome addition to our sponsor line-up.
08.21.07 :: Congratulations to RRSW Racers!
I'd like to congratulate John Jewett, Mike Coberly, James Joyce, and Allen Ankney on entering the Arroyo Seco 4 hour Endurance Race, they finished 1st in the Lightweight Class, and 3rd overall. A really great performance by our local racers to show that Road Race Southwest has some awesome racing talent in our series.
07.22.07 :: RRSW Trackday
Just a heads up to let you know that Roadrace Southwest has a Trackday on September 23rd at Firebird East Track. This is the weekend before the race weekend, so it'll give you a chance to dust off the cobwebs, and get your bike set-up for the following Twin sprints event. You can also pay for it now if you want to, so that you don't have to pay for the Trackday and the race weekend in the same month. For full details of the Trackday CLICK HERE
I'm looking forward to seeing you all out there again,
Jack.
05.24.07 :: Tracks...
I often here people say… Firebird sucks… but does it really?
I've been around racing and racers for more years than I care to remember. I've been very fortunate to have hung out with, drunk with, and partied with, some of the best racers of our time. The Troy's, Corser and Bayliss, Carl Fogarty, John Reynolds, Neil Hodgson, Colin Edwards, I could go on with my list but you get the idea. One comment I've NEVER heard anyone one of the above riders say at any event we've been at is ‘this track sucks’.
Most of the above names I met while they were competing in the British Superbike Championship, which is without doubt one of the most fiercely competitive national race series in the world. When people think of U.K. race tracks, they always think of Brands Hatch, Silverstone, and my own personal favorite track in the world, Donington Park. But what they don't see or hear about are the other tracks that the BSB guys race on. Tracks like Mallory Park, Thruxton, and Snetterton, some of which make Firebird seem like a Moto GP quality circuit. Snetterton has one turn that's called the ‘bomb hole’, if that doesn't give you a clue as to what the surface is like, then nothing will. But the riders never complain about the track, do they have their favorite tracks, of course they do. But they don't allow the quality of any circuit to be a hindrance to their performance, or to their efforts to win the race.
You may be wondering why I sat down to write this article, well yesterday I read a comment that really made me think about some of the racers, and some of the race tracks that I've been around. The comment was ‘using just Firebird will lose racers, also guys will move on to find a challenge’. Well I checked the results for this year, as I was sure the person making this comment must have won every single race he'd entered at Firebird, on every single track at Firebird. That must be the case because he'd surely met the challenge that Firebird offered him, or why would he be looking for a new one. Well to my surprise there were no such results from any rider this year. So did this person really want a challenge, or did he want to blame the track for something that wasn't the tracks fault?
So why is it then those world class riders never complain about a circuit? Why is it that no rider has ever heard Mark Ledesma complain about Firebird? Because the track is the same for every rider out there, it has no greater or lesser effect on any one individual. If you let the quality of the circuit beat you before you even race, then you're missing the whole point of racing. The challenge is to beat the other riders out there, to set up your bike to be the best it can be at the particular track you're racing at, irrelevant of the track condition. That challenge is not affected by the quality of the circuit, the circuit just sometimes becomes a convenient excuse to some riders who don't have the ability to meet the real challenge, that of beating the other racers, and learning to go faster at the tracks available to them, you can always go faster at any track you're on.
By pure fluke, Mark Ledesma called me today as I was writing this article, he asked what I was doing and I told him I was writing an article on track quality. I took the opportunity to ask him what he honestly thought about the quality of Firebird, he replied ‘ It doesn't matter what I think of the track, or what track I'm on, my goal is to go as fast as I can at each track I race at. I'm there to win the race, wasting my time complaining about the track, or complaining about things I can’t change, is time I could spend working out how to go around the track faster’.
That's pretty much the same thought I have whenever someone comes up to me and says, Firebird sucks, or every time I read about how Road Race Southwest will fail unless we stop using Firebird. Well guess what, we’re not going to stop using Firebird, at the moment it’s all we've got. RRSW went to Vegas last year, and there were more tumbleweed’s in the paddock than racers. Many local racers returned to RRSW this year because we weren't going to Vegas, a lot of riders can’t afford the expense of traveling out of town for three days, and with the points they'd lose by not attending the Vegas round, it makes it very difficult for them to remain competitive for the end of year championships. Some riders also say, I might race with RRSW if you go to Vegas, well we've been to Vegas the last two years, you didn't race with us then, so why would I believe that you will now? I'm not prepared to risk the future of our series because three or four guys might race with us at Vegas if we go. We've had way more racers than that come back to our series this year because we didn't go to Vegas. Is Vegas in our future, definitely, when the series is to a point financially to be able to support it. So that when all the racers who are saying now that they want to go to Vegas, don't actually attend, we'll be able to sustain the monetary loss we will without doubt incur.
The other comment I hear a lot is Firebird is a dangerous track, well Wayne Rainey and Mick Doohan’s careers were both ended at tracks that were considered safe, they were Moto GP certified (or FIM GP 500 as it was then), which has the highest safety standards in our sport. Part of the racing challenge is to modify your riding to suit the track, go fast in the safe sections, ride safer in the dangerous sections. That's part of your race craft, reading the circuit, do you slow down in your car when it rains? Of course you do, why, because you modify your driving for the conditions. Racing is the same, every turn, and every feature, at every track, should be taken into consideration, and your riding adjusted accordingly to suit the track conditions.
Everyone likes a variety of tracks, we’re very fortunate to have three different tracks at the same facility. But if you're not winning every race at every one of those tracks, then you've not met the challenge that Firebird presents to you. I respect riders who want to try other tracks, who want to go out to other circuits to gain more experience, but please don't translate your desire to try another track into 'Firebird's just crap'. Until the riders who complain about Firebird or other tracks really understand the true nature of what racing is about, they'll drive from track to track trying to find the elusive success that evades them at the ‘crappy tracks’. The track is not what's preventing their success, it’s their attitude towards it.
Ride Safe,
I’ll see you on the grid.
Jack Frost.

05.14.07 :: Awesome Weekend of Racing.
Well you guys really know how to put on a show, I had so many people come up to me and say it was some of the best racing they'd ever seen at this weekend's event. Everyone seemed to like the new format, all the GP podium finishers did really well on their interviews, and a lot of riders went home with some serious cash courtesy of swroadracing.com. In case you didn't know, swroadracing.com is a brand new website committed to positive discussion about our local series, and a determination to discuss ideas that will help it grow into the much bigger event we all know it can be. Some forums love telling us what we're doing wrong, but very few want to help unless it benefits them in some way. They've already proved that's not the case with swroadracing.com, as before they've even really opened the site, they donated $600 in prize money to our series. Imagine that, someone actually putting their money where their mouth is instead of just talking trash about stuff they know nothing about.
Many of you came up to me and commented on how much you liked the interviews for all GP classes, and making all of the GP classes an interest to the fans. The spectators that were there this weekend certainly liked it, as was obvious by the amount of people who crowded around to listen to the interviews.
Massive props to Cory Stem who rode his bicycle for an hour around the track to raise money for Cancer Research. Many of you know Lonnie who has worked for RRSW for many years. His wife recently died of cancer and it was nice to be able to raise some money, to help in the fight against this terrible disease. Cory raised a total of $910 in his efforts, with many racers contributing their weekend's race winning toward the cause.
It's so nice to know that virtually all the RRSW racers appreciate the true values that racing brings, and are not just in the sport for themselves and for the money.
Well we've all got three months to recover from the great racing this weekend. I'm going to miss you guys over the summer. But there's lots of great news that'll be posted in the next couple of weeks, so make sure you check back for updates on our ever growing local series.
Don't forget to check out swroadracing.com, it's a really great forum, and although RRSW don't officially endorse any website's or forum's, but if we did I'm sure we'd choose this one.
Thanks to all for the massive support again this past weekend, you make all of our efforts worthwhile. For those of you who didn't make it to the track this weekend, make sure you check out the pictures of Jewett' new Zuma... it's errr... very 'nice'.
Respect to all,
Jack.
05.09.07 :: May Schedule Change, again.
We switched races 9 and 10 to give the guys who run both Middleweight and Heavyweight Superbike a break in between the two races. This is now the FINAL schedule. Please understand guys it's impossible for me to please everyone with the schedule. we do our best, but there's no way I can run it that doesn't mean someone has to run back to back races. Please do not call me today asking me to change it again, we have to get the programs and schedule sheets printed before Friday, so now the schedule is what it is.
Thanks for your understanding,

05.04.07 :: May Schedule Change.
We've amended the May Schedule slightly and switched around a couple of races. The main reason was some of the Motard guys would have ended up doing 3 races back to back and they were concerned with their bikes overheating. Unlimited GP is also back up to 16 laps, we thought the number of laps may be one reason not so many people were entering. But it would appear that is not the case as we've had lots of calls asking to put the laps back up to the original number. Speak and you shall be heard, well at least sometimes anyway.
Thanks for your continued support, don't forget to send those last minute pre-entries
in.
Jack.
05.01.07 :: We're famous... again!
I'm not sure how many of you remember the girl who took our new riders clinic at our March round, well her name was Rachael Westfall and she wrote a really good article on us for Trackday Mag, to check out the article CLICK HERE
04.27.07 :: It's getting hot in here...
After much consultation with many riders, we've amended the rules regarding coolant use. If your bike is prone to overheating as some of the highly tuned newer Honda's are, you MAY use Engine Ice as an alternative. ONLY Engine Ice is approved as an alternative to water. We would still prefer that you continue to use distilled water and either Redline Water Wetter, or Cool Aid wherever possible. The reason for this is that if a bike does spill coolant, it's much easier and quicker for us to clean up the water option, and therefore the clean up time does not eat into our already tight race schedule.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter, and PLEASE continue to use water wetter wherever possible.
See you on the grid,
Jack.
04.25.07 :: New Ideas for May Races.
John and I have thought long and hard about the changes that we've made for the May races. At our April races the UNL GP had far less entries that our payout structure could support. As a result of that RRSW lost around $1500 over the two days of racing, obviously we can't continue to support the UNL GP class in it's current format and stay in business. We had hoped that by increasing the amount of purse, and by paying further back in the field, it would encourage more riders to enter, but it's obvious that is not the case. We have therefore revised the payout structure for the class, we'll still lose money with only five entries, but the loss will be one that we can support should we have low entries again. To view the new payout structure CLICK HERE. Obviously if the entries in UNL GP go back up again during the season, we will increase the payout's again to reflect the number of riders.
I still feel that we need to make the racing more fun for the spectators, the only way we'll become really successful is if our spectators have fun, and keep coming back for more. We need to give them something more than 5 bikes in one race at the end of the day to look forward to. I want to give the spectators a number of highlights throughout the day. I also want them to get to know a lot more of the racers, it will make the spectators feel as though they're more involved in the action. In an attempt to do this, I've made all GP Races 12 laps for the May event, and the top three in all GP Races will be interviewed after the race. I hope this will make all the racers feel that they're just as important to our series as the UNL GP guys are, and it will also give the spectators more to see, and more to be involved with.
The May round will be a trial run to see if our ideas work, I'm very confident they will. Hopefully you racers will also prefer it. If you don't like it then we can always change back to how it was for the April round. I don't think we should be afraid to try new things until we get the series to something that works well for the racers and spectators alike. Please try to be optimistic about the changes, and I'm sure they'll benefit everyone in the upcoming event.
Thank you for your continued support of RRSW,
Regards, Jack.
04.24.07 :: News from CCS about '06 & '07 Yamaha R6 Airboxes.
I received a press release from Eric Kelcher today, he's the CCS Director of Competition. It outlines the rules regarding Airbox modifications on 2006 & 2007 Yamaha R6's, and also our guidelines for inspecting them. To view a copy of the letter outlining this information CLICK HERE

04.11.07 :: North Valley Steps Up for the May Races.
There's nothing better than my phone ringing off the hook with people trying to give me money to support the series! I've literally just got off the phone with Rick Stratton, one of the RRSW Rider Clinic Instructor's, and also the GM of North Valley Motorsports on Cave Creek Rd.
For the May New Riders Clinic, North Valley are going to pay for 10 new riders to take the clinic. There are some restrictions which are outlined below.
1 - You must take the Clinic on either a Honda or Kawasaki Motorcycle that is eligible for one of RRSW Race Classes.
2 - After passing the Clinic, you must apply for your CCS Race license with RRSW, and enter at least one race on the Sunday following the Clinic.
3 - You must race on the same bike that you took the class on, i.e. a Honda or Kawasaki.
To register, either call Rick Stratton at North Valley on 602-996-9280, or go into the store and see him. The first 10 riders to contact Rick who meet the requirements set out above will get the Clinic.
I'd like to thank Rick Stratton and Mark Ledesma, both of whom I know had a lot to do with North Valley stepping up to help attract even more new riders to our series. The more new riders we attract the better we'll become. Make sure you stop in and see Rick as soon as possible, and if you've got a friend who rides red or green, now's your chance to get them racing.
Thanks again guys, you're both a credit to our series and to North Valley.
04.11.07 :: Mo' Money for Lightweights.
Well it would appear that this trend of giving away money is really catching on, and I'm not complaining about that. Tom Hilsdorf one of our regular RRSW racers, and the owner of TC Motorcycle Paint and Bodyworks has stepped up with another $200 dollars for the April LWGP Races. Here's how Tom's payout will work, the payout will only be available to Amateur Riders. The points scored by the Amateur riders in the LWGP races for Saturday and Sunday will be added together. The Amateur rider with the highest total combined points for the two races will get the $200. In the event of a tie, the rider with the fastest lap time in either race will take the cash.
I'd like to give MASSIVE thanks to Tom for stepping up with even more cash to give away for the April races. If you haven't seen any of Tom's work, please check him out if you're in need paint or body repairs, which knowing most racers is pretty often. You can contact Tom by calling 602-628-3594, or stop into his shop at TC Motorcycle Paint & Body Works, 16624 N. 32nd St. Phx, AZ. Tom specializes in Custom paint, plastic, fiberglass, & fuel tank repair. Thanks again Tom, we really appreciate your continued support of the series.
04.08.07 :: Lap Times!
It would appear that we're still having some difficulty getting the lap times from the March races up on the results page. If you would like your lap times from the last races's, Karen has kindly offered to e-mail them to you. Please send Karen a an e-mail at karen@roadracesw.com and I'm sure she'll be able to help you.
This problem WILL be fixed by the next race weekend, I assure you.
Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter,
Jack.
04.08.07 :: Money, Money, Money, must be funny, in a rich man's world!
If you know where the above line came from then you're as old and as sad as I am. I've got some awesome news for RRSW Lightweight racers today thanks to the guys at Phoenix Sportbike Club. PSC will be giving away $500 in addition to our normal payout, in the Lightweight GP Races at our April 21st & 22nd Twin Sprints event.
Here's how it will work, the points for the LWGP races for the two days will be added together, the highest combined total will win $300, 2nd place will get $125, 3rd will get $75. In the event of a tie, first place will be awarded to the rider with the fastest lap time in either of the two races. Just think of it as the same as a WSBK weekend, 21st will be race 1, the 22nd will be race 2. With a lot of riders entering the Lightweight races for the next round, and many old riders returning, I'm sure the extra cash incentive will make for some really awesome racing, just remember to play nice boys.
Huge thanks from me to Rick Bucher and Will Darton from PSC for stepping up, it's nice to know the local motorcycle community supports us in our efforts to help the series grow. If you'd like to express your thanks, then please pop over to PSC and say hello, to visit the PSC Forum CLICK HERE
Only 12 days until Race Day :)
04.04.07 :: We are aware the Lap Times are missing.
Thanks to all the people who e-mailed me that there are no lap times posted from the last event, and also that some of the scoring is incorrect. Believe it or not, we are aware of the problems and we will have them rectified as soon as possible. I'm just as eager to see the lap times as the rest of you. The program that records the lap times and scoring has been recently updated by CCS, and it caused a problem with the software that merges the data onto the website. Had we been aware that this problem was going to occur, we would have certainly taken measures to prevent it. As some of you seem to believe, we don't deliberately screw things up to annoy you... honestly :)
Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Jack.
03.29.07 :: Chicken Hawk Tire Warmer Program
Euro Motorsports have come up with a new program for Chicken Hawk tire warmers exclusively for RRSW racers. For more info CLICK HERE
Many thanks to David and Josh at Euro Motorsports for their continued support of our series.
03.29.07 :: VP Fuel at Race Weekends
Here's a copy of an e-mail I just got from the VP Fuel lady.
I'm the trackside coordinator at Western States Petroleum in Phoenix AZ. We are the company that supplies VP Racing Fuel at all the CCS events that take place at Firebird. I wanted to find out if there's anything we can do to help make all the racers aware that we are at the track for all the events and the times we are there. They do announce that we are there at the events but most times that is too late for racers that have already bought the fuel with them. We are trying to increase our sales at these events and make it as convenient as possible for your racers. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how we can work together to accomplish this please let me know. We also want to be able to accommodate any racers that might need special fuel that we would not normally have with us at the events.
I am personally working all the events at Firebird so I will be your onsite contact if you have any questions on race days.
Thank you.
Maria Marandola
Office #: 602-252-4011
Cell #: 480-577-9968
It looks like VP are trying to help us, so please let's try to utilize them as much as possible. For those who aren't aware of it, VP Contingency is only paid if you buy your fuel Trackside, not from a local vendor or store. Please give Maria a call if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Jack.
03.28.07 :: April Race Weekend
The tentative schedule for the April races is now posted. The fees for the races will be $90 for the first entry, $70 for the second entry, $50 for every entry after that on the first or second day (except UNL GP). We've also split out some of the races to allow riders to enter more races. A lot of the Motard guys wanted to enter Lightweight GP but couldn't because it was a grouped race. Well now you can, likewise with ULW Superbike & 125 GP. The gate fee for the entire weekend will still only be $10, which will be collected on Saturday. Hopefully the entry's on Sunday will be enough to cover what we would normally take on a Saturday Trackday. I really want to keep the prices as low as possible to allow you guys to enter as many races as you'd like too, this is our first Twin Sprints event of the year but with all the support we've been getting lately I know it will be a great event. Please beat the bushes as much as you can for spectators, it's only $10 for two days of racing.
Thanks a lot,
I'll see you on the grid,
Jack.
03.28.07 :: Another Great Race Weekend
Thanks to all of you that came out to make round 3 of our series a weekend to remember. It was great to see the USGPRU guys out there, and to watch some awesome on track battles in many of the races. It looks like the Lightweight Class is going to get interesting for the rest of the year. It was also good to see some old faces finally take the riders school and form up on the grid. Well done to all the new riders who raced on Sunday, you did a great job.
Another big thank you to most of you for your efforts with the parking situation, a big thanks to Ray Thibedeau who seemed to have about 8 riders under a 10ft canopy. The parking situation should be a little better next time, as we won't have a visiting race series like we did this last weekend. But we'll all still have to park sensibly to make it work again.
Thanks again to all of you for your continued support, I'll see you again in
April.
Jack.
03.20.07 :: Contingency, Contingency, Contingency !!
Just another friendly reminder that Road Race Southwest IS NOT responsible for your contingency payout's. We do our best to try and make sure you fill out the forms correctly, but if they're not correct, and you don't get paid, ultimately that is your responsibility, NOT OURS. Also, if the form is filled out correctly, and for some reason 'insert company name here' does not send you your money, that is also not Road Race Southwest's fault, or responsibility. Various RRSW staff have received several e-mails asking ' where's my contingency money? '... Answer, we do not, and we never will know the answer to that question. For any of you that want to find out the status of your contingency payout's, you can do so by using the form that CCS provides for that very purpose. To download it CLICK HERE Then fax your completed form to 817-246-2977.
Any more e-mails, phone calls, faxes, or telepathic messages asking RRSW staff about the status of your contingency payout's will be ignored. We simply do not have the time to follow up on your behalf for something that is your responsibility to claim. Please use the form above and the National CCS staff that are paid to handle the enquires, will take care of any questions you may have. I'm very sorry if this sounds harsh, but we just do not have the time or the resources to deal with contingency issues.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
03.19.07 :: Firebird Paddock Parking for March 25th Races.
Well as you can see our pre-entries are huge with 50 riders already pre-registered. That's AWESOME for our 3rd Race Weekend and it looks like our series is really starting to shape up. Space is going to be pretty tight in the East Track Paddock, especially with the USGPRU guys joining us for the first round of their series, I'd like to welcome them to Arizona, and I'm sure their season is going to get off to a great start.
In view of the space, we've implemented some guide lines to hopefully ease the parking in the paddock. There will be no trailers allowed on the asphalt, only canopies will be allowed on paved areas, and all trailers must be parked lengthways at 90 degrees to the asphalt. Please do not park your 60ft race rigs parallel to the asphalt, as this will take up too much space and not allow any room for other racers to pit.
We've drawn a plan to hopefully make things a little easier to understand, we'll also try to have some Marshall's in the paddock to help direct parking, and to make sure that people park considerately. To view the parking plan for March 25th please CLICK HERE
Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter, and thank you all for your continued support of RRSW.
See you on the grid,
Jack.

Make sure you register ASAP in time for the March 25th race, and remember that November 3rd & 4th at Main is also a Kawasaki contingency weekend.
03.12.07 :: Gate Fee for Race Weekend.
Just to give you all a heads up, we'll be charging the gate fee on Saturdays from now on. The fee will still only be $10, and if you pay on Saturday it'll be good for Sunday's races at no extra charge as long as you still have your wristband on. The reasons for this are as follows, a lot of people stay in the paddock on Saturday night, and if they've not paid the gate fee or signed the waiver then it could put us in a tricky situation with our insurance if someone gets injured while in the paddock on Saturday night. Also, we had lots of spectators at the last event and the line at the gate was pretty big, if April only has to sign in the new visitors on Sunday, and not people who were there on Saturday as well, hopefully it'll make the line move a little quicker. I don't want to put spectators off by making them wait in line too long.
Thanks to all of you for your understanding in this matter, it's the only way I can figure out to try and speed things up a little at the gate on Sunday, and it won't actually cost any of you any more money.
Thanks again,
Jack.
02.25.07 :: Don't Panic
Just to give you all a heads up that Heidi and Karen will be out of town from Feb. 28th until Mar. 6th working at Daytona, so don't panic if you don't get a response to e-mails or fax's sent to them while they're away. Thanks.
02.21.07 :: At last... we're famous !!
Michael Houp from Wicked Magazine did a great story on us from our first race of the season. To check it out CLICK HERE. He also took some really good pictures of the races, and Rick Stratton even made the photo gallery too. To see the pics CLICK HERE.
A huge thanks to Michael for braving the elements with us to cover the event, I'm told the article and pics should be in print around March.
02.20.07 :: An AWESOME Race Weekend.
Well, I think I've finally started to recover from what was definitely an amazing weekend of racing. I can't believe the amount of racers and spectators that came out to support us this weekend. I'm very grateful to all of you for your support as our series continues to grow here in Arizona. It was a difficult weekend for me, I was very pleased with the turnout and the great racing, but I was also very sad that this was the last weekend that my great friend Wayne Nielsen would be in the paddock. As many of you know, I crewed for Wayne last year in his final year of racing with CCS SW. He had a great year finishing with the overall number 2 plate, and more trophies than he could carry. He's also worked with me at Tracktime for many years, and I know both organizations will miss his presence greatly.
He's a very familiar face around the paddock. Wayne is always willing to lend a hand or advice to anyone, but especially to racers, new and old alike. You'll be greatly missed my friend, thank you once again for all your help this weekend, and I'm sure I'll be calling your cell phone for more advice on March 25th. May your road be filled with the smell of burnt rubber and race fuel for many more years to come. Good luck in Texas, respect always.
Last but not least I'd like to thank the RRSW Crew, once again these people pulled out all the stops to put on another great weekend. There task was not made any easier by the number of spectators we had (and no I'm not complaining about that!). Even with all the minor incidents we had, they still kept us on schedule and ran all the races full distance. Great Job.
John, Randy, Heidi, Karen, Mike, all the reg staff, scoring staff, corner workers, the crash truck crew, the Tech guys, pre gird, Desi, and April on the gate. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. You guys ROCK.
Hopefully the buzz I got from this weekend will last until March,
See you on the grid.
Jack.

02.01.07 :: February Race Schedule Posted.
The tentative schedule for the February races is now posted, and I'm not expecting any major changes to it, if any at all. I should also have the March schedule posted as well in the next few days so keep checking back for that. We're hoping to have most of the bugs worked out from our first race weekend, and if we're lucky the weather will be kind to us this time. I'm looking forward to seeing all you guys out there again.
Take care,
Jack.
01.26.07 :: RRSW Gallery now on-line.
The new Road Race Southwest Gallery in now on-line, check it out and start uploading some pictures.
01.26.07 :: A Few Changes to RRSW.
Well after our first race weekend we've been looking at what we need to do to keep CCS Racing alive in Arizona. I REALLY want to keep the gate fee to $10 and only charge it on race days. I know the gate fee was a huge issue for a lot of you last year, and I want to try and keep the gate fee lower to both help racers, and try to attract more spectators. But we do need to make sure that we're at least breaking even financially for our weekends or we won't survive.
In view of that, the Trackday fees have been adjusted slightly to make sure that the racers entering the most races on Sunday, are getting looked after the most on the Saturday Trackday. I looked at the race entries from the January 21st races, and the changes to the Trackday pricing will affect very few of you. Also, the payout structure for UNL GP has been modified slightly too. We're still paying the same amounts, but just not paying as far back unless the number of entries can justify it. If there's only ten entries and we're paying out $2000 per race, the only way I can support that is to increase the gate fee again, and that I don't want to do unless absolutely necessary.
You can now also pre enter for Trackdays using the on-line pre-reg form. The new Trackday pricing is listed on the fees page. For the new UNL GP payout details CLICK HERE.
I'm hoping for your understanding in these changes. I know we can make this work with your continued support. Any change we make will always affect someone, but hopefully the changes will benefit most, and ultimately help the series grow stronger.
Thanks for your support,
Jack.
01.23.07 :: Great Support for our First Race Weekend.
Just a quick note to say thanks for all the support on our first race weekend. The rain didn't help our cause, but most people hung around to defeat the elements and race, albeit it on slightly reduced laps. Some racers picked up penalties for various rule infractions, but all in all it was a fairly good start to the season considering the conditions, and the fact that we're still ironing out the wrinkles with the many new changes we've made this year to improve the series. I know February will be even better, hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we'll have some more great racing.
Many racers complained last year that rules and penalties were not being enforced, so this year we're trying to address that complaint by being as fair and as consistent as we can. We're also not going to preach the rules to you during the riders meetings this year either. As John said at this weekends riders meeting, you've all got a rule book, we don't need to tell you what's in it. I know many of you last year did not like the long riders meetings, so we'll try to keep them as short and as concise this year as we possibly can.
Thanks again for your support, and for your understanding with our staff under very difficult conditions. Thanks as well to all those that attended the awards banquet, it was a really great night with well over a hundred people attending. Wayne Nielsen gave a great performance on vocals with his guest band appearance, and everyone had a very positive outlook for the 2007 season. Very well done to all those who won awards, I was very impressed and really moved by the speeches that were given, and by the obvious camaraderie that exists in the RRSW paddock. With the great people, and with the great attitude that we have in our region, our series can only succeed and grow to be even better than it ever has been before. Let's all stay positive, and all work hard to make 2007 a really great year.
Lastly, HUGE thanks go out to John Jewett, Randy Stem, and ALL of the RRSW staff for working very hard on Sunday to get the track raceable. It was a monumental task which you all executed without complaint, and in very quick time. I'm very grateful to all of you for your outstanding professionalism, and your dedication to the RRSW series.
I'll see you all in February,
Respect,
Jack.
01.19.07 :: PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE AT FIREBIRD.
If you're planning on going to Firebird tonight, please do not block the gate. Firebird have told me that we must park on the outside of the ticket booths, and form two lines to the right hand side of the approach road. Anyone parking beyond the ticket booths, or parking directly in front of ANY gate WILL be towed by Firebird. I have no control over who they will or will not tow. They will also not be held liable for any damage they cause to your vehicle, as you will be trespassing on Firebird property and they have the legal right to remove you. The gates are open one hour extra from last year in an attempt to ease the ' gate panic ' that seems to exist. I can't really speed up the process of signing people in because you have to sign the waiver. But please be patient, use some common sense, and park considerately. Thank you.
01.19.07 :: Which Paddock for January Race Weekend.
We're using the old A/B Paddock which is the one closest to the West Track. At the time the track was booked for this weekend, the Pro Pits were being used by someone else for the 21st. Surprising as it may seem to some of you, we're not the only organization that use the Firebird facility. Plus it's about 50/ 50 as to which paddock people actually prefer. Next time we're at Main in November, I'll try to get the Pro pits if it's available so we've had one date at each paddock, that should hopefully keep everyone happy.
01.18.07 :: Fuel Info for Race Weekend.
The VP fuel truck will be on site for CCS racers from 7 a.m to 12:00 noon both Sat. and Sun. This will be more than enough time for all racers to obtain any fuel they may need for the races. If you have a request for a specialty fuel to be put onto the truck, please e-mail Jackie at jackie@westernstatespetroleum.com or you may call her at 602-697-7819.
Euromotorsports will also have Sunoco Race Fuel available at the track for this weekend's event.
01.17.07 :: More Forms added to the Website.
Added one event License application form, and the refund request form.
01.15.07 :: Two more Classes added for the 2007 Season.
After many phone calls and much debating we added two more classes to our race program, Heavyweight Superbike and Super Motard. It seemed only fair that the 750's had somewhere to race on their own terms, and I know all you Motard haters will be happy that they now have their own class. The FINAL Race Day schedule is now available, to see it CLICK HERE
01.14.07 :: Unlimited Grand Prix Payout for the 2007 Season.
Well, we finally figured out the Unlimited GP Payout structure for the 2007 season. Payout will be as follows.
| 1st | $600 |
| 2nd | $300 |
| 3rd | $200 |
| 4th | $160 |
| 5th | $150 |
| 6th | $140 |
| 7th | $130 |
| 8th | $110 |
| 9th | $105 |
| 10th | $100 |
Only 6 days to go until show time.
01.10.07 :: More New Info added to Website
Frequently Asked Questions section added to the New Racers page. Two more classes added to the 2007 program. Middleweight GP, and Motard. Will all the 600cc riders now please stop calling me to bitch and moan that you only have two classes, LOL. New Sponsors added to the Sponsor page, also some payout info added. I will post details of the payout's as soon as the individual sponsors send back their signed contracts.
Only 11 days to go.
I'll see you on the grid,
Jack.
01.06.07 :: New Info added to Website
The tentative Race Day Schedule for January 21st event is now available, CLICK HERE here to check it out. I also added a Race Fans page to give some information to our potential spectators. I also added the new 2007 Race Pre Entry form. AZ Ear Protection stepped up to sponsor a class, thanks to Ron Arieli for sponsoring another class for the 2007 season.
01.06.07 :: New, New RRSW Website Launch
Well, it made it about 2 days before a huge programming makeover, we changed a lot of the back end programming to make the site load quicker, and make it easier to navigate. hopefully you'll notice a difference in the load times.
01.04.07 :: New RRSW Website Launch
A brand new look for a brand new season. All of the relevant info will still
be here, and the site will be an ongoing project as the season progresses. A
lot of the old out of date stuff has gone, as well as the forum which was pretty
much dead anyway. If you have any comments or concerns, we'd still love to hear
from you, so either pick up the phone and call us or send us an e-mail. There's
plenty of other forums available if you want to bench race. Please bear with

12.28.06 :: RRSW 2007 Schedule Change
Due to a conflict with the Daytona Race Weekend. I've moved the October round to an earlier date to allow racers to be able to attend both events. Several people had mentioned this to me, so I decided that moving the date was the fair thing to do. I hope this won't affect anyone's plans too badly. I considered several options before making the change, I also tried to stay at Main instead of East, but unfortunately this was the only feasible solution available with Firebird. The schedule change is as follows,
OLD DATE |
NEW DATE |
October (19)20-21 - Firebird Main ** |
September 29-30 - Firebird East ** |
The new date will remain a twin sprints event.
Thanks for your understanding in this matter,
Jack.

12.18.06 :: RRSW Trackday Info for 2007
The Information for next seasons RRSW practice days is now available. I'm sure we'll have to fine tune a few things as we go along, but I'm hoping that by allowing trackday riders to mix and ride with the regular racers, we can attract more new riders to the RRSW Series. Please let's make them feel welcome and see how many we can convert to our obsession.

12.17.06 :: Final Classes for 2007
Well John finally got back from his vacation in Hawaii and we reviewed the class structure for 2007. As many of you know, I'm not too good at the whole forum thing, but I do read them, and I do listen to valid points that are raised by current licensed CCS racers. I've also had several discussions with other organizations that may race with us during the 2007 season, and in light of all that, the classes for next year will be as follows.
12.17.06 :: Amendments to Overall Points System for 2007
After several more phone calls, many of you raised some very valid points that John and I had overlooked. Some of the classes are not heavily entered, which would give the riders running those classes a clear advantage over classes with larger grids. We have modified the points system accordingly to reflect that. The points system will still run as described, but only the following classes will count for overall points.
Speak, and you shall be heard. We're trying to make this a series that you want to be a part of, and we'll keep fine tuning it until we get it right.
Jack.
12.12.06 :: New Overall Points System for 2007
I've received more calls on how overall points are calculated than any other topic, so I knew that a lot of you were eager for a change in the current system. I had to some how make it fair for every expert rider, and also to give all of you an equal chance of winning the title. But I also had to take into consideration that most people only have one bike to race. I'm sure there's no system that I could implement that will keep everyone happy, but here's the fairest system I've come up with that I think will make it much better than it is now.
Next years overall number 1 plate will be calculated by adding together your top two class scores. You can still run more than two classes, but only your top two scores will count. That way every rider has an equal opportunity to win, no matter what machine they're riding. It also allows guys with only one bike to be able to compete for the number one plate. All classes will count for points, and there'll be no win index factor applied as it won't be relevant. If at the end of the year two riders are tied, then the highest number of wins will be the tie breaker. I'm hoping that this system will keep the title chase close, and make it much more interesting for the riders and the spectators.
Thanks a lot for all the suggestions I received, and I'm sure this system will make the overall points much closer next year.
See you on the grid, Jack.
